In 1969 Baptist believers founded a Bible school at Shewzet, Myitkyina. The school was moved to Pyin Oo Lwin in 1992 in order to have better communication within Myanmar and abroad and to promote the study programmemes.
A Bachelor of Theology programmeme was inaugurated in 1995 adding a course of study one step higher to the former Licentiate in Theology programme. With this additional programme and with the vision of teaching more advanced courses, the name of the school was changed to Lisu Theological Seminary of Myanmar (LITSOM)
LITSOM's vision, “Blessings to the Nations”, is taken from the call of Abraham in Genesis12:1-3. Although the focus of Litsom is to reach the most needy people, The Lisu, it will never lose sight of God’s call for inclusive ministry. Enrolment is open across cultural, national, and denominational lines; Litsom offers the programme most suitable for each student.
LITSOM is affiliated with Myanmar Institute of Theology (MiT), Insein, and is a member of the Association of Theological Education in Myanmar (ATEM), and the Schools of Theology Department of Myanmar Baptist Convention
